San Francisco would lose nearly 18,000 net jobs over the next 20 years as a result of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, according to a new report from The City’s Office of Economic Analysis.
Easing the pain, The City would likely pick up more than 5,000 manufacturing jobs through 2045 as a result of the tariffs, especially in electronics and computer hardware. But other sectors would lose jobs, the report published Monday states.
A major caveat to the report is that the most impactful tariffs have been ruled unlawful and might be cancelled, which the report said would neutralize most of the negative effects it describes.
