Before his death, Robert Redford largely retired from acting. He left behind an impressive collection of roles, whether it was intense spy thrillers or gritty neo-Westerns , in addition to being a prolific director and helping found the iconic Sundance Film Festival. It led to a genuine surprise when he appeared on the Season 3 premiere of AMC's neo-Western series Dark Winds in March. Even more surprising was Redford's screen partner, who was none other than Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin . Redford and Martin both serve as executive producers on Dark Winds , but seeing them sitting apart from each other while playing a game of chess is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. It's also a full-circle moment for Redford's career .
