A new study from OpenAI has revealed that ChatGPT is being used predominantly for personal needs and schoolwork, rather than in the workplace.

OpenAI analyzed 1.5 million chat logs from May 2024 to June 2025. The study found that more than 70% of prompts were related to schoolwork, fitness tips or writing assistance.

Researchers noted that ChatGPT is also becoming a substitute for traditional web searches.
