LOWER MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Luigi Mangione, the man charged with the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, returned to court on Tuesday for the first time since last spring and won a legal victory.

The most severe charges against him were dropped by a judge in New York State, but the charges that remain are still serious enough to send him to prison for life.

Still, his many supporters were at court and said that they're pleased with how Tuesday's hearing went.

Mangione was shackled and wearing a beige prison jumpsuit at the morning hearing, which lasted less than 10 minutes.
