BOISE, Idaho — A trial date has been set for a man accused of murdering, dismembering and disposing of remains in Idaho in May.
Custer County Judge Stevan Thompson on Tuesday scheduled a jury trial for Alan Douglas Bruce. He is accused of murdering 47-year-old Patrick Shelton, who was reported missing in spring 2024.
In May 2024, officials began searching for Shelton after he went missing in the Challis area. The search was called off after court documents showed Bruce confessed to killing Shelton. Court documents state Bruce told police he and Shelton got into a confrontation. He said he shot Shelton, dismembered his body and burned it in an attempt to hide the evidence.
