CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- Prime farmland won't become prime real estate in Cumberland County, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
The county celebrated preserving more than 25,000 acres of farmland on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Lil' Ponderosa Beef, a Carlisle-based angus cattle farm. Cumberland County commissioners, the Pennsylvania Director of Farmland Preservation, FFA students and nearly 100 visitors marked the major milestone for the 36-year-old Farmland Preservation Program.

"It’s vital to keep our rich soil for our farms forever,” said Bob Boyce, whose family has owned Lil' Ponderosa for nearly four decades. They previously preserved 123 acres, and have additional land pending for preservation.
