The Environmental Protection Agency has released new details on the recovery efforts in Roseland.

Water sampling has been conducted following the explosion at Smitty's Supply over three weeks ago, which sent chemicals into nearby waterways, including the Tangipahoa River. Advertisement

Crews have been working to collect the oil-water mixture at a nearby pond.

According to the EPA's website, perfluorooctane sulfonate, a man-made chemical, was detected in both upstream and downstream samples at low levels, with downstream samples showing slightly higher levels than upstream.

Zinc and barium were also found in the samples.

Downstream sample results indicate an elevated presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons compared to upstream samples.
