Mobile’s two mayoral candidates clashed Tuesday over their records and visions for tackling the city’s biggest challenges, from crime to budget priorities, during a spirited but cordial debate hosted by AL.com and sponsored by AARP .

State Rep. Barbara Drummond and former Mobile County District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis squared off on issues ranging from homelessness and public safety to senior services, quality of life, and marijuana policy during the hour-long debate at AL.com’s downtown hub, just a week before the Sept. 23 runoff election.

Drummond, a Democrat who has served in the Alabama House since 2014, leaned heavily on her long tenure in public service and her deep ties to Mobile city government.
