ZAGREB, Croatia (WCMH) -- After falling short of winning a medal at the Paris Olympics a year ago, Kyle Snyder is back at the top on the global stage.
In a rematch of last year's bronze medal meeting in the French capital, the former Ohio State wrestler won a world title in the 97 kg weight class after defeating reigning Olympic champion Amirali Azarpira of Iran on Tuesday in Zagreb.
Trailing 2-1 after the first two periods, Snyder earned the step out point with eight seconds left to clinch his fourth world championship in the last decade. An unsuccessful challenge by Azarpira led to Snyder winning the match by a score of 4-2.
Snyder's win adds to world titles won in 2015, 2017 and 2022. The 2016 Rio Olympic champion also owns two World silver medals and a bronze.
