LINN COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) - A woman has been identified nearly 50 years after she was found dead in rural Linn County, according to the Oregon State Police.

Police say the skeletal remains of Marion McWhorter were discovered on July 24, 1976 in the area of Wolf Creek, near Swamp Mountain, off of Highway 20.

She had last been seen at a Tigard shopping mall in 1974, when she was 21-years-old.

Her skull and several teeth were found by a moss hunter, and additional remains - as well as clothing - were found at the site by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2010, a bone sample was sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, and DNA results were uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
