ELON, N.C. — Elon University and Queens University of Charlotte have announced plans to merge , a partnership leaders say will strengthen higher education across the Charlotte region.
Both universities’ governing boards have unanimously approved the plan, though officials note there are still several steps before the merger becomes official. The schools say the partnership would expand the footprint of higher education in Charlotte and better prepare students for a growing workforce.
