Alberta’s industries will have a new way to pay their carbon dues after the provincial government announced changes to the industrial emissions pricing and trading system.

The Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation establishes emissions benchmarks for facilities throughout Alberta. One can either make sure they come in below those benchmarks, or pay the price, purchasing “carbon credits” from a facility that has come in below their own thresholds or paying into the provincially managed fund.
