Members of the Pittsburgh City Council voted to go ahead with plans for an $86 million public safety training facility.
It has become a controversial matter because some members of the public fear it would be used to conduct police militarization training, with critics labeling it as "cop city." Advertisement
A 100-acre site in the city's Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood is the designated site for a multi-use training facility to be used by EMS, fire, police, and public works.
City Councilman Anthony Coghill said Tuesday that the intent is for a legitimate training facility, not what is rumored to be by some members of the general public.
