SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Woodbury County Supervisors voted, Tuesday night, to end benefit coverage for retired county employees, who are 65-year-old or older, and their families.
Right now, the county allows former county employees, including those over 65, eye insurance, dental insurance, and partial payment of a Medicare supplement.
According to Iowa law, the county is required to provide insurance for retirees up to age 65.
However, the county isn’t obligated to fund those benefits after that age.
According to the county records the highest utilized insurance is dental insurance, which includes 53 former county workers and their families.
Cutting the eye and dental insurance benefits, for those over 65, could save the county about $75,000 a year.
