NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A verdict has been reached in a lawsuit alleging that Google unlawfully collected information from 98 million cellphone users who requested not to have their app activity tracked.

A California federal jury ordered Google to pay over $425 million in damages following a nearly three-week trial.

The lawsuit alleges that Google unlawfully saved and used information about consumers' activities on third-party apps even after users opted out of tracking. The data was reportedly collected between July 2016 and September 2024.

The jury also determined that Google did not engage in unlawful conduct with malice.

The verdict comes months after Google was ordered to pay $1.4 billion to Texas to settle similar claims that the company collected users' data without permission.
