HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Prosecutors Office has successfully obtained an indictment for the suspect in the beating of a 69-year-old man in a Ross Store.
Helkena Carland, 27, has been indicted for assault in the first degree for beating a man in the Ross Store located on Seaside Avenue in Waikiki on Sept. 1.
“Elder abuse is a deplorable crime and we are committed to pursuing justice in this case,” said Prosecutor Steve Alm. “We strive to ensure that our community is safe, especially for our most vulnerable citizens. We would like to thank the Honolulu Police Department for their swift investigation in this case,” Alm concluded.
Assault in the first degree is a Class B felony and carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
