PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs is cutting services to Arizonans with disabled children to protect "this program into the future for the families that need it," she said.
The Democratic governor is implementing reductions at the state's Division of Developmental Disabilities, which serves more than 60,000 Arizonans, following Republican lawmakers' harsh criticism earlier this year for massive cost overruns.
"We couldn't move forward without guardrails, and that's what we are doing," Hobbs said.
The cuts are set to begin Oct. 1.
The projected savings are $133.2 million in total funds, with $47.4 million coming from the Arizona General Fund, according to the governor's office.
The cuts may reduce the number of service hours children are approved to receive, according to the governor's office
