STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- New Dorp coach Bret Melamed knows full well that Staten Island’s PSAL 3A division is a grind and any win you can garner early in the season is a plus.

The veteran coach has his Centrals off to a flying start with a 3-0 mark after Juan Rojas headed in a ball in the 65th-minute to break a 1-1 deadlock with Island-rival Susan Wagner, giving the Centrals a 2-1 win Tuesday afternoon at home.
