To the world, Robert Redford was one of the biggest movie stars of all time, an Oscar-winning director, a champion of independent film and an environmental activist.

To Glenn Schiffbauer, he was Bob, a longtime friend.

The two met decades ago while Schiffbauer was working as a manager at Rancho Encantado, a luxury resort north of Santa Fe now called Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado.

“I first met him when he was meeting with John Nichols just to talk about The Milagro Beanfield War ,” Schiffbauer recalled, referring to a novel set in Northern New Mexico that Redford eventually adapted to the big screen as director.
