Good Samaritan Shelter will host a local Recovery Day event Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at its 401 W. Morrison Ave. campus.
The event is part of a series recognizing National Recovery Month, a nationwide observance dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and substance use disorders, and celebrating individuals in recovery.
The annual observance, launched in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), highlights the importance of accessible, evidence-based treatment and community support. Despite millions of Americans facing substance use or mental health challenges, national data shows that many still struggle to access the help they need.
