BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — You can now add Ashton Strother to the Jags' quarterback carousel.

The Coahoma Community College transfer joined Southern's roster just a week before their season opener, and it seemed Strother would simply be a depth piece this year. But in the Jags' 56-7 loss to Fresno State on Saturday, Strother showed promise in his ability to lead the offense effectively, protect the ball, and connect with his receivers consistently.

On his first drive as Southern’s quarterback, he led the offense 75 yards down the field for their only touchdown of the game. He finished 9-of-14 for 127 yards with zero turnovers. Those numbers aren’t flashy, but remember—this was his first Division I game.
