St. Louis, Mo. (KY3) - A major donation of memorabilia related to a famous Missourian will soon be part of The Missouri History Museum’s collection.

The nearly 500 items all relate to Josephine Bake r. The St. Louis-born star rose to fame in the 1920s. She starred on stage and then on film. Her most brazen act, though, took place during World War II. That’s when she became a spy for the French in occupied France.

“I think in just the last few years, some things have been declassified that showed that she was helping American and British forces as well, more than we thought,” explained Jody Sowel l of The Missouri Historical Society . “Sometimes she was passing notes, oftentimes this is what she was doing.
