NEWBURYPORT — A wide variety of topics are set to be discussed at tonight’s City Council meeting, from police department grants to a resolution to reduce waste. But perhaps no topic will draw more attention than the recent appointment of interim Human Resources Director Donna Drelick.

Tensions rose weeks ago after Mayor Sean Reardon named Drelick as interim director for 90 days, with two possible 30-day extensions shortly after the City Council rejected her reappointment.
