ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A former DeKalb County police officer has been reindicted for fatally shooting an unarmed man inside his Stone Mountain home in 2022, according to prosecutors.
On Tuesday, a DeKalb County grand jury indicted Russell Mathis, 32, of Tucker, on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct stemming from the shooting death of 37-year-old Marando Salmon on Nov. 4, 2022.
Mathis and Jordan Vance, both DeKalb County police officers at the time, responded to a call about a stolen car parked in the driveway of a home on Autumn Crest Court in Stone Mountain.
Prosecutors said the officers knocked on the front door of the house, “which swung open.” The officers then went inside.
