ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. – Tuesday night, in a 5-2 vote, the St. Louis County Council voted against a resolution honoring the life and legacy of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

It came after a spirited night of debate as residents packed the county council chamber in Clayton.

Those in favor of the resolution said they felt it was about defending freedom of speech, freedom of religion and condemning political violence.

Those against it said they felt some of Kirk’s past comments disqualified him for the recognition and also said they felt it was inappropriate to elevate an unelected official with such an honor.

After an extended period of public comments, the council voted 5-2 against the resolution.
