MADISON (WKOW) -- A panel discussion on the impact of tariffs on Wisconsin's economy brought a mixed bag of responses.
"If you're a soybean grower, the outlook is grim. The bottom line is, if China continues to stay away from the United States, that is our number one market," said Pam Jahnke, director of the Mid-West Farm Report Network.
China has placed retaliatory tariffs on American goods, including soybeans, meaning the country, once the top buyer of U.S. soybeans, is now buying less.
Jahnke also expressed concern about rising costs for farm equipment and fertilizer.
"I don't care what type of farmer you are, almost all of them consume some type of fertilizer, and my fertilizer bill on my farm is 30% higher than last year, and I haven't finished buying," Jahnke said.
