Queensland police are searching for a "dangerous" man who is believed to be armed and wanted over his alleged involvement in a shooting in the state's far north.
Police allege Cairns man John Durham Willey, 47, fled after the vehicle he was travelling in crashed on the Bruce Highway yesterday, 50 kilometres north of Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
At a police press conference today, Capricorn Crime Group Detective Inspector Luke Peachey said a search of the vehicle uncovered two firearms, and five more were found in a golf bag dumped nearby.
"Even though we've seized a number of firearms, he may be still armed and we're treating him as still armed," Detective Inspector Peachey said.
He said the "arsenal of firearms" was concerning.
