Less than a month after launching its new Elroq mid-size SUV, Skoda Australia has confirmed a stripped-back version with a smaller battery will join the range to become its cheapest electric vehicle (EV) yet.

The Skoda Elroq 60 Select is set to arrive in local showrooms in November, priced at $49,990 drive-away – $10,000 less than the previous entry-level 85 Select variant, and a whopping $20,000 less than the flagship 130 Years Edition.

The sub-$50,000 price makes it the cheapest European-built EV currently on sale in Australia by some margin. Skoda Australia director Lucie Kuhn admitted the introduction of the Elroq 60 was an easy decision in the context of Skoda's powertrain portfolio, saying "there was not really a big discussion about it".
