Vanesta Gray’s laugh filled the room as she welcomed each guest to her 111th birthday party with bright eyes, soft hands and an infectious cheerful smile.
The room was decorated entirely in red — not for Nebraska volleyball, though she’s a massive fan — but because it’s the only color she can still clearly see.
Born Sept. 16, 1914, Gray is Nebraska’s oldest living person, ranked 35th in the U.S. and 118th in the world, according to the Gerontology Research Group .
On Tuesday, the staff at Van Dorn Villa hosted a party to celebrate their longest residing resident at 3001 S. 51st St. Court.
Despite her age and declining eyesight, Gray wins most card games, can recall decades worth of family memories, and tracks each Nebraska volleyball game.
