On Sept. 10, 2025, Charles James Kirk was murdered on the campus of Utah Valley University. In the moments prior to his killing, Kirk was engaging in a debate with a student about mass shootings, during which Kirk implied that gang violence should be a part of that discussion.

“MLK was awful. He’s not a good person . He said one good thing he actually didn’t believe.”

Kirk’s story is one of American entrepreneurship. The event at which he was killed was sponsored by Turning Point USA, a political nonprofit that he founded in his parents’ garage in 2012.
