Legendary television presenter Roger Climpson, who sat in the Seven News chair for decades and became one of Australia’s most trusted faces, has died in Sydney aged 93.

From the 1960s to the 1990s, Climpson was a fixture in Australian homes, delivering the news with elegance and professionalism that earned him the adoration of viewers across the nation.

“Roger was a highly respected, beautiful newsreader who had a great reach to the TV audience and they absolutely adored him,” a colleague said.

“I learned a lot from him and I think his elegance shines through both on camera and off.”

Climpson’s career wasn’t limited to news presenting. He also appeared in commercials and hosted numerous hit television shows, including Australia’s Most Wanted and This is Your Life.
