There was something about a kickoff—it was difficult to hear as a volley of tortillas catapulted into the air from the stands of Jones AT&T Stadium. The discs were bright against a storm cloud looming over Texas Tech University that day. Some tortillas reached mere feet in altitude before plopping back down into the student section. Others, such as the crudely engineered center-less tortillas, sailed over students, over myself, over security, and over staff members before landing on the sidelines. One tortilla brushed my shoulder. I immediately ducked while the folks next to me also attempted to dodge tortillas in vain. It was a relentless, glorious barrage.
