SARASOTA, Fla. — The New College of Florida says it will commission a statue of Charlie Kirk on campus to "honor his legacy and incredible work."

"The statue, privately funded by community leaders, will stand on campus as a commitment by New College to defend and fight for free speech and civil discourse in American life," the Sarasota-based school wrote in an X post.

Kirk was a right-wing activist and media personality most known for founding , a group aimed at promoting conservative political positions on school campuses. He was shot and killed at the age of 31 while speaking at an event in Utah last week.
