Donald Trump has been greeted at Windsor Castle by Prince William and Princess Kate at the start of what a royal author told Newsweek would be a "very high stakes state visit."

Trump went on to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla , who is recovering from acute sinusitis, ahead of a carriage procession through the Windsor Estate.

Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, told Newsweek : "This is a very high stakes state visit. The frill on the frock is the royalty."

Camilla's attendance was thrown into doubt Tuesday after she pulled out of the funeral of the Duchess of Kent due to ill health, although Newsweek understands she will make all elements of a packed schedule to the state visit Wednesday.
