Scriba, N.Y. — Scores of firefighters from two counties battled a huge fire overnight that could be seen for miles at the Novelis aluminum plant in Scriba.

Firefighters from nearly 20 departments in Oswego and Onondaga County responded to the fire.

The fire started at 10 p.m. and the fire was extinguished around 2 a.m., according to a Novelis spokesperson who asked that she not be identified.

“We’re still investigating the cause and the extent, but it was mostly isolated to the roof of the factory,” she said.

There were employees in the factory when the fire broke out, but they were all evacuated safely, she said.

No injuries have been reported.
