OREM, Utah. (AP) — The 22-year-old man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University has been charged with murder, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Evidence presented by prosecutors when announcing charges against Tyler Robinson included an alleged text message confession to his partner and a note left beforehand saying he had the opportunity to kill Kirk “and I’m going to take it.” DNA on the trigger of the rifle used to kill Kirk also was matched to Robinson, according to Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray.
During a brief court hearing, a judge said he would appoint an attorney to represent Robinson.
