BOSTON (WWLP) - The U.S. Attorney's Office in Boston has successfully collected over $48 million in restitution from Insys Therapeutics executives convicted of a health care racketeering conspiracy.

The restitution was awarded to victims, including individuals, insurance companies, and Medicare, following the conviction of Insys founder John N. Kapoor and six former executives. They were found guilty of bribing medical practitioners to prescribe Subsys, a potent fentanyl spray, and defrauding Medicare and private insurers.

The convicted executives include John N. Kapoor, Richard M. Simon, Sunrise Lee, Joseph A. Rowan, and Michael J. Gurry, who were found guilty by a federal jury in May 2019. Two other executives, Michael Babich and Alec Burlakoff, pleaded guilty to their roles in the con
