An Aberdeenshire primary school teacher who kicked a pupil on the backside and grabbed him while he was lying on the floor has avoided being struck off the teaching register.

Nicola Sangster was found to have committed the actions on December 12, 2023 while she was employed as a teacher at Anna Ritchie School in Peterhead , which acts as a complex needs school for the area.

Ms Sangster accepted the allegations that she grabbed the pupil by the back of his waistband and backpack while he was lying on the floor and kicked him on the backside.

She also shouted "you are not the boss of here, you’re not the boss of the school, and you’re not the boss of my class" near his face and "do not hit your mum, do not hit your mother".
