The Hamblen County Retired Teachers Association recently welcomed Friends of Hospice Serenity House Executive Director Stephanie Hamill as guest speaker for their monthly meeting.

At the conclusion of Hamill’s program, the association’s members presented a donation to help Serenity House continue their work of serving the community.

Opening in 2013, Serenity House provides an alternative care resource in a home-like setting to hospice patients who are unable to remain in their own home at the end of life.

It is a non-medical home which can serve up to five residents at one time.

Each resident must be under the care of Hospice. Residents should have a life expectancy of two to three months or less.

The average stay is about three weeks and must not have a “Do Not Resuscitate” Order.
