Appearing on MSNBC to promote his book on the investigation into American presidents starting with Richard Nixon, former prosecutor and current CNN legal analyst managed to fit in a shot at Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel over their recent antics.

Speaking with the hosts on “Morning Joe” about reforms needed at the Department of Justice when it comes to independent counsels, Honig changed direction briefly to touch on Patel’s bumbling investigation of the Charlie Kirk murder and Bondi’s much-criticized comments about using the full force of her office to prosecute people for “hate speech.”

Asked about the concept of what constitutes justice within the DOJ, Honig took an off-ramp and stated, “So first of all, what we saw the last couple of days from Kash Patel from Pam Bondi, it's just a clown show.“

“I mean, there's no technical term for it, but they don't know the basics,” he continued.

“To not understand that hate speech is protected speech, to say you're going to indict people for the racketeering law I used to use to go after mob families for racketeering because they were heckling the president in a seafood restaurant? So it would be nice to start with some base competency,” he added.
