The United States Treasury Department plans to stop issuing paper checks for most payment on September 30, which includes those checks to social security beneficiaries.

It's part of the Trump administration's effort to fully modernize federal benefits payments, save money and fight financial fraud.

More than half-a-million Social Security recipients — less than one percent — need to choose another way to receive their Social Security benefits. Those can be either direct deposit or through a pre-paid debit card, also known as Direct Express.

If you still need to receive a paper check, you can request a waiver.
