The U.S. Army has updated its appearance, grooming, and uniform regulations on Sept. 15 in a new directive.

Nearly two years ago, the service began reviewing existing standards. Still, many of the rules were "ambiguous" and "difficult to interpret" among army leaders and stakeholders, according to Army Sgt. Major Michael Weimer during a Sept. 8 media panel.
