BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Niles Post troopers are investigating a fatal tractor crash that occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

A 78-year-old Bertrand Township man lost control of his tractor on US 12 near Franklin Street, causing the tractor to roll over.

First responders arrived on scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police would like to share tractor operation safety tips:

Drive slowly to maintain control.

Understand your tractor's center of gravity and use reverse gear on slopes.

Stay alert to surroundings, including vehicles, people, and animals.

Avoid ditches, embankments, and obstacles that could cause instability or loss of control.
