The Philadelphia Phillies recently found out Zack Wheeler was diagnosed with vascular thoracic outlet syndrome.

Wheeler was diagnosed with vascular thoracic outlet syndrome as opposed to neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome. Merrill Kelly underwent the same surgery that Wheeler will undergo on Tuesday. Kelly returned to pitching in six months after his surgery.

Any surgery is concerning for a player's long-term outlook. However, Dean Donahue, director of Massachusetts General Hospital's thoracic outlet syndrome program, gave the Phillies a positive update on Wheeler's case.
