PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps didn’t need a fairy tale ending for their magical season. The team that dominated the Midwest League all season quietly lived up to the hype, sweeping through the postseason and walking away with a 3-1 win over Cedar Rapids on Tuesday to clinch the league championship.

Manager Tony Cappuccilli called the 2025 Whitecaps “one of the best teams to ever do it.”

“I’m not going to stop (talking about this team). It’s not happening. This is the best group of guys, the best team I’ve ever been around in my life, so there’s no reason to stop talking about it,” Cappuccilli told News 8.

Outfielder Austin Murr said the team wanted to end the series Tuesday night. They didn’t want to stress about a potential winner-take-all Game 3. •
