EAST CHICAGO — A text message from a frightened girl asking her mother to return home because a man they know had sexually assaulted her has resulted in two criminal counts of child molesting, records show.

The girl and two other children were reportedly left Friday night in the care of the accused, Gregory Swiontek, 29, who went out drinking and did not return until the following morning, police said.

It was upon his return to the children's home that he allegedly molested the girl, according to a court document.

The girl's mother was with a family member at a hospital.

Police said they were contacted early Saturday and found Swiontek sleeping before he was taken into custody.

Swiontek denied the accusations, police said.
