FROSTPROOF, Fla. (WFLA) -- A woman was arrested after she was accused of leaving two dogs to die in the backyard of a Polk County home.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said an anonymous complaint was made on June 17 about Nashali Santiago, 20, who was watching her brother's two German shepherds while he was deployed overseas.

The complaint said there were two dead dogs in the backyard of her home on West 6th Street in Frostproof. Santiago told PCSO she last saw the dogs the night before when she gave them food and water and that they were "fine."

Deputies arrived to find the bodies of Ajax, a three-year-old male, and Sugar, a two-year-old female, inside of a "makeshift pen with no roof or shade," according to the sheriff's office. The pen was alleged to contain no food or water bowls a
