Communities across Michigan are celebrating Constitution Day today, honoring the nation's founding document.

Recognized nationwide on Sept. 17, the day marks the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution — Sept. 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, according to the National Archives.

Also known as Citizenship Day, the day honors the legacy of the U.S. Constitution and recognizes the significance of U.S. Citizenship, per the National Constitution Center.

"Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens," ConstitutionDay.com said.
