Melania Trump loves a wide-brim hat.
The first lady wore a purple version of the piece, that partly covered her eyes, during a much-anticipated U.K state visit Wednesday, Sept. 17, evoking memories of the black hat she wore on Inauguration Day. Trump was pictured with King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the president donning the hat at Windsor Castle.
On Inauguration Day, Trump sported a matching dark navy blue coat and skirt with a matching brimmed hat that covered her eyes, designed by her stylist Adam Lippes.
Trump’s travel to England marks a rare public outing — set to mix stately affairs with a hectic social schedule — as she joins the president following British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's invitation when he visited Washington in February.
The lowkey first lady has kept a light public calendar during her husband's second term, appearing at fewer events since President Donald Trump took office in January in pursuit of a controversial policy agenda.
The ultra-private first lady – who has receded from public view in recent months – returned to action a day prior, wearing a Burberry trench coat and black sunglasses Sept. 16 as the pair embark on a three-day trek to England, holding hands with her husband at the White House.
Despite a calmer calendar, Trump has chosen to appear alongside the president at select events, including his second inauguration festivities, Fourth of July celebrations, the funeral of Pope Francis, the White House Easter egg roll, visiting Texas flooding victims and the administration's multimillion-dollar festival and parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
