FOXBOROUGH - Patriots running back Antonio Gibson earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League for his performance in the team’s win over the Miami Dolphins.
Gibson’s 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was a pivotal pay in the 33-27 win. It came the very next play after the Dolphins had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown. That was the kind of response Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has been preaching to his players.
It was Gibson’s first career kickoff return for a touchdown. The running back also gained 27 yards on five carries to go along with his 171 yards on kickoff returns.
The Patriots hadn’t earned a Player of the Week award since the 2022 season.
